Murfatlar
The Murfatlar vineyard is perhaps the best known in Dobrogea. It was founded in 1907 and has wine-growing centers in the south of Dobrogea. Medgidia, Mangalia, Cernavodă, Adamclisi, Chirnogeni. The oenologists found on the hills of Murfatlar conditions comparable to those of the Champagne region of France, but the limestone and the drought give the grapes a lot of sugars, so the wine has a natural sweetness, which made the winegrowers turn to sweet and semi-sweet varieties. The white wines have a different color, from golden green to golden amber, and the red ones are garnet with ruby reflections.
Since ancient times, the locals of Dobrogea cultivated vines on these lands. Annually, 25,000 tons of grapes are harvested, resulting in 18 million liters of wine, almost the equivalent of one liter of wine for every Romanian. Several thousand people work from spring to late autumn to harvest the vines.
The main attraction of the Murfatlar vineyard is the winery. The winery houses almost 40 years of tradition. The dusty bottles sit nicely, stacked on the shelves. There are a lot of flavors here. Some fine, delicate, fresh, others heavier, strong, full of personality. All combine in complete harmony and form the most subtle liqueurs. And, as we well know, the older the wine, the better it is.
You can taste up to 9 varieties of wine, you can have a meal, a traditional meal, visit the museum, music and good cheer.
10,000 tourists visit the tourist center annually. Here is also the Wine and Vine Museum, which houses dozens of valuable exhibits, representative of the viticultural field in the southeast of the country.
